Robert is of German origin, but considers himself more a ‘true European’. Fascinated by Europe’s diversity, cultures and heritages, he has since he got his drivers licence travelled the continent on his various motorbikes north to south and east to west, covering almost every country in between.

After he finished his law studies, he found that he needed a break from the academic world and packed his BMW to drive alone through Africa. He arrived home one year later, having covered 21 countries and over 40,000km and his journey was later published in MOTORRAD, Europe’s biggest motorcycle magazine.

Resuming his legal education as an articled clerk, he soon found himself again travelling on a motorbike through North America, during a four month internship in Vancouver, Canada. Although he hoped that he had now rid himself of the travel bug, it wasn’t meant to be and in 2002, he and his trusted BMW were on their way to New Zealand, initially only for one year to study for a Masters of Law (LL.M.) at Victoria University Wellington.

But things turned out completely different and after one year working in Sydney (and of course travelling the country on his bike), he finds himself today living in Wellington, being a Permanent Resident and Barrister & Solicitor of the High Court in New Zealand.

Notwithstanding that, Robert has also used his time to travel the country extensively, from as far north as Cape Reinga to the very south of Fiordland. Robert is determined to settle down after the trip – but doesn’t quite trust himself on that.
